तस्या रुदत्या भाविन्या दीर्घा वेणी सुसंयता
tasyā rudatyā bhāvinyā dīrghā veṇī susaṃyatā
Markandeya said: “As she wept—foreboding what was to come—her long braid was kept tightly bound.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights inner turmoil and impending fate: even amid grief and ominous anticipation, outward restraint (the tightly bound braid) mirrors the ethical ideal of self-control under suffering.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes a woman in distress, weeping with a sense of what is about to occur; the detail of her long, firmly bound braid serves as a vivid, characterizing image within the unfolding story.
