Dyumatsena’s Restoration and Sāvitrī’s Disclosure of Yama’s Boons
tato me triguṇā yakṣā ye madbāghanakāriṇaḥ | kecid eva dhanādhyakṣaṁ bhrātaraṁ me samāśritāḥ |
“Therefore, the Yakṣas who carry out my commands are three times as numerous. Among them, only some have taken service under my brother, Kubera, the Lord of Wealth.”
The verse highlights ordered responsibility: beings are situated within hierarchies of duty, where service and obedience to rightful authority sustain cosmic and social order; even powerful attendants (Yakṣas) are distributed according to allegiance and function.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes the relative numbers and affiliations of Yakṣas: most serve under his command, while a smaller portion serve his brother Kubera, identified as the lord/overseer of wealth.
