Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then Lakṣmaṇa struck that rākṣasa again from behind with great force. Deprived of life-breath, the huge Kabandha fell down upon the earth. The episode underscores resolute courage in the face of violence and the ethical necessity of protecting one’s brother and oneself against a predatory aggressor.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights steadfast courage and the dharmic duty of self-defense: when confronted by a predatory, violent being, decisive action to protect oneself and one’s companions—here, Lakṣmaṇa acting to safeguard the situation—is ethically warranted.
Lakṣmaṇa strikes the rākṣasa Kabandha again, specifically from behind and with great force; Kabandha, now lifeless, collapses to the ground, marking the defeat of the monstrous attacker in this episode narrated by Mārkaṇḍeya.
