Sāvitrī’s Trirātra-Vrata and Departure with Satyavān (सावित्रीव्रतनिश्चयः सहगमनं च)
tasya tat sarvam ācakhyau sītāyā lakṣmaṇo vacaḥ | yad uktavaty asadṛśaṃ vaidehī paścimaṃ vacaḥ ||
Lakṣmaṇa then reported to him (Rāma) everything that Sītā had said—especially the Vaidehī’s final words, which were unbecoming and accusatory. The passage highlights how grief and fear can drive even the virtuous to speak harshly, and how such speech becomes an ethical burden in moments of crisis.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical weight of speech: in distress one may utter words that are 'asadṛśa' (unbecoming), and such speech—especially accusatory or improper—becomes significant enough to be reported and judged within a dharma framework.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that Lakṣmaṇa recounts to Rāma everything Sītā said, emphasizing her final, improper and reproachful remarks—setting the emotional and moral tension of the episode.
