Indrajit’s Binding, Restoration by Viśalyā, and Counsel Restraining Rāvaṇa (Āraṇyaka Parva 273)

Bhīmasena said: Seeing the Earth sunk beneath the waters, the Lord resolved within his mind to raise her up. He reflected, “Assuming what form shall I lift the Earth out of this flood?” The passage evokes divine responsibility: when the world-order is overwhelmed, the protector chooses an appropriate means—power guided by purpose—to restore balance.

Educational Q&A

When disorder overwhelms the world, true guardianship acts decisively yet thoughtfully: power is not random force but a chosen means aligned with restoring dharma and protecting the vulnerable (here, the Earth itself).

Bhīma recounts a cosmogonic moment: the Earth has sunk into the waters, and the Lord, seeing this, inwardly resolves to rescue her and considers what form to assume to accomplish the uplift.
