Rāma’s Reproach of Sugrīva; Hanūmān’s Report of Seeing Sītā

Kotik said: “You are endowed with extraordinary beauty—do you truly feel no fear even in these forests? Are you a goddess, a yakṣī, a dānavī, the finest of apsarases, or perhaps the noble woman of some daitya?”
The verse highlights how extraordinary beauty and fearlessness can lead observers to suspect a supernatural identity, reminding readers to be cautious about judging by appearances and to inquire respectfully before forming conclusions.
Koṭika addresses a woman encountered in the forest, marveling at her exceptional beauty and apparent lack of fear, and asks whether she is a goddess, yakṣī, dānavī, an excellent apsaras, or a daitya’s noble woman.
