Vaiśampāyana said: Hearing those words—spoken then by Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) and grounded in dharma—Satyā (Satyabhāmā), honoring the dharma-practising Pāñcālī, replied with respect. In ethical tone, she seeks pardon for an improper question, acknowledging that among friends such playful teasing can arise by mutual ease.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Speech aligned with dharma invites respect and self-correction in others; even when a question or remark is improper, humility and apology restore ethical harmony, especially among friends.
After Draupadī speaks in a dharma-consistent manner, Satyabhāmā responds respectfully, honoring Draupadī’s righteous conduct and (in the surrounding context) asking forgiveness for an inappropriate or teasing question, noting that such banter can occur among close companions.
