Vaiśampāyana said: “I diligently observe all the duties known to me—begging for sustenance when required, making the bali offering (vaiśvadeva), performing śrāddha rites, and, on festival days, offering the sthālīpāka sacrifice. I also render heartfelt honor and hospitality to those worthy of respect, along with the other disciplines of dharma that I know—practising them all with constant readiness, casting off idleness day and night.”

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes vigilant practice of dharma through everyday disciplines: regulated livelihood (bhikṣā), domestic offerings (bali/vaiśvadeva), ancestral responsibility (śrāddha), festival observances (sthālīpāka), and sincere respect toward worthy persons—performed without laziness and with steady readiness.

In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a speaker (implied in the quoted content) describes her consistent observance of household and ethical duties—ritual, charity, and honoring elders—presenting her conduct as a model of disciplined righteousness.
