Educational Q&A

The verse presents divine qualities as ethical ideals: power should be ‘unfailing’ and ‘sinless,’ fierceness should serve the destruction of wrongdoing, and true strength is paired with inner calm. It also implies that remembering and reciting such epithets cultivates devotion and auspiciousness.

Mārkaṇḍeya is enumerating the sacred names/epithets of Kārttikeya (Skanda) for the king, describing his attributes—mighty yet serene, beloved yet terrible to evil—within a devotional catalogue of names.
