Markandeya said: “Take the goddess’s right hand with your lotus-radiant hand.” Thus instructed, Skanda duly accepted her hand according to the prescribed rite. The passage frames the marriage as a divinely sanctioned, rule-governed act: personal desire is subordinated to ordained order and proper ritual conduct.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse emphasizes dharma as disciplined action: even a divinely significant union is to be undertaken through proper procedure (yathāvidhi), highlighting respect for sacred order, consent expressed through ritual, and the ethical value of acting within prescribed norms.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates an instruction to accept the bride’s right hand; following this directive, the groom (contextually Skanda) performs the formal act of pāṇigrahaṇa—taking the bride’s hand—thereby completing the key marriage rite in accordance with tradition.
