Adhyāya 227: Duryodhana’s Deliberation and the Ghoṣa-yātrā Pretext

विश्वामित्रस्तु प्रथमं कुमारं शरणं गत: । स्तवं दिव्यं सम्प्रचक्रे महासेनस्थ चापि स:,विश्वामित्रजी सबसे पहले कुमार कार्तिकेयकी शरणमें गये तथा उन्होंने महासेनकी दिव्य स्तोत्रोंद्वारा स्तुति भी की
viśvāmitras tu prathamaṃ kumāraṃ śaraṇaṃ gataḥ | stavaṃ divyaṃ sampracakre mahāsenasya cāpi saḥ ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Viśvāmitra, first of all, sought refuge in Kumāra (Kārttikeya). Having approached him as a protector, he then composed and offered a divine hymn of praise to Mahāsena as well. The episode highlights the ethic of śaraṇāgati—turning to a worthy divine guardian with humility and devotion before undertaking one’s purpose.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse underscores śaraṇāgati: before acting, one should first seek rightful refuge and protection through humility and devotion, expressed here by composing and offering a sacred hymn.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that the sage Viśvāmitra first approached Kumāra (Kārttikeya/Skanda) for refuge and then praised him with a divine stotra, addressing him also as Mahāsena.
