Mārkaṇḍeya said: “Thus I have recounted the exceedingly great lineage of the Fire-gods. When worshipped with various sacred mantras, that divine Fire bears the oblations offered by embodied beings and conveys them to the gods.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Ritual action becomes effective when aligned with dharma and performed with mantra and reverence: Agni, duly worshipped, functions as the sacred mediator who transmits human offerings to the divine realm, sustaining the ordered relationship between humans and gods.
Mārkaṇḍeya concludes a genealogical account of the Fire-gods, affirming Agni’s established role in sacrifice: when invoked and honored through diverse mantras, Agni carries the offered havis from embodied beings to the gods.
