Kuvalāśva’s Lineage and Uttaṅka’s Petition concerning Dhundhu (धुन्धु-प्रसङ्गः)
वामदेव उवाच नानुयोगा ब्राह्मणानां भवन्ति वाचा राजन् मनसा कर्मणा वा । यस्त्वेवं ब्रह्म तपसान्वेति विद्वां- स्तेन श्रेष्ठो भवति हि जीवमान:,वामदेवने कहा--राजन्! मन, वाणी अथवा क्रियाद्वारा कोई भी अनुशासन या दण्ड ब्राह्मणोंपर लागू नहीं हो सकता। जो इस प्रकार जानकर कष्टसहनपूर्वक ब्राह्मणकी सेवा करता है; वह उस ब्राह्मणसेवारूप कर्मसे ही श्रेष्ठ होता और जीवित रहता है
Vāmadeva uvāca: nānuyogā brāhmaṇānāṃ bhavanti vācā rājan manasā karmaṇā vā | yas tv evaṃ brahma tapasānveti vidvāṃs tena śreṣṭho bhavati hi jīvamānaḥ ||
Vāmadeva said: “O King, no coercive command, censure, or punishment can rightly be imposed upon brāhmaṇas—whether by speech, by thought, or by deed. But the wise person who understands this and, with disciplined endurance, follows the path of brahman through austerity and reverent service becomes truly superior; by that very conduct he thrives while living.”
वामदेव उवाच
