Kuvalāśva’s Lineage and Uttaṅka’s Petition concerning Dhundhu (धुन्धु-प्रसङ्गः)

athaivam bruvāṇam enam abravīd rājā—vāmadevāśramaṃ prayāhīti; sa gatvā vāmadevāśramaṃ tam ṛṣim abravīt—

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: When the charioteer spoke in this manner, the king commanded him, “Proceed to the hermitage of Vāmadeva.” Having gone to Vāmadeva’s āśrama, the king addressed that sage—thus setting his course toward counsel grounded in dharma and restraint.

Educational Q&A

A ruler, after hearing counsel, turns toward a sage’s āśrama—signaling that right action (dharma) is clarified through humility, seeking guidance, and submitting one’s power to ethical instruction.

After the charioteer speaks, the king orders a journey to Vāmadeva’s hermitage. Upon arrival, the king begins to address the sage, marking a transition to a dialogue or instruction scene.
