Lomaśa said: As the earth was being lifted up, a tremendous upheaval arose on every side. The gods and the ascetic seers were shaken. A cry of alarm spread through heaven, the mid-region, and the earth; no god or human could remain steady. Then many gods and sages went to Brahmā. At that time he sat upon his seat, radiant with divine splendor—an image of calm authority amid universal disturbance.

Educational Q&A

When the cosmos is shaken and even the mighty lose composure, the narrative highlights the need to seek steadiness in higher wisdom and lawful order (dharma). Brahmā’s calm radiance contrasts with universal panic, suggesting that true authority is grounded in stability and insight rather than reaction.

A great upheaval occurs as the earth is being lifted, causing panic across heaven, the sky-region, and the earth. Gods and ascetic sages become disturbed and unsteady. In response, many of them approach Brahmā, who is depicted seated and shining with divine brilliance.
