Adhyāya 136: Yavakrī–Bharadvāja Saṃvāda and the Bāladhī–Dhanuṣākṣa Gāthā
Arrogance, Boons, and Nimitta
Yavakrīta uvāca: evaṁ kariṣye mā tāpaṁ tāta kārṣīḥ kathaṁcana | yathā hi me bhavān mānyas tathā raibhyas pitā mama ||
Yavakrīta said, “I will do exactly so. Father, do not feel any distress at all. For just as you are worthy of my reverence, so too is the sage Raibhya—he is like a father to me.”
The verse emphasizes dharmic restraint and reverence: one should not cause a parent anxiety, and one should honor venerable elders (especially sages) as one would honor one’s own father.
Yavakrīta reassures his father that he will act as instructed and urges him not to grieve. He further affirms that Raibhya, though not his biological father, is to be regarded with the same respect as a father.
