Bharadvāja said: “Then a son was born to him—intelligent, and at the same time fierce-tempered. On hearing about the boon granted by the gods concerning his lifespan, Medhāvī became swollen with pride and began to slight and insult the sages.”
भरद्वाज उवाच
Gifts such as divine boons can become spiritually dangerous when they feed darpa (arrogance). Intelligence without humility, and power without restraint, leads to adharma—here shown by contempt toward ṛṣis, who embody discipline, learning, and moral authority.
Bharadvāja narrates that a son named Medhāvī is born. Though intelligent, he is quick to anger. After hearing of a divine boon regarding his lifespan, he becomes proud and begins to insult and disregard the sages.
