Kirmīra-rākṣasa-saṃgamaḥ (Encounter and Slaying of Kirmīra) |

dhṛṣṭadyumna uvāca | ahaṁ droṇaṁ haniṣyāmi śikhaṇḍī tu pitāmaham | duryodhanaṁ bhīmasenaḥ karṇa-hantā dhanañjayaḥ |

Dhṛṣṭadyumna said: “I shall slay Droṇa; Śikhaṇḍī will bring down the Grandsire (Bhīṣma). Bhīmasena will strike down Duryodhana, and Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) will be the slayer of Karṇa. Supported by Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, we are invincible to our enemies in war; even Indra could not defeat us in battle—how much less the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.”

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights the kṣatriya ethic of resolute commitment in a righteous war: leaders publicly declare responsibilities, assign roles, and draw strength from legitimate alliances and divine support. It also warns that confidence should be grounded in dharma and disciplined purpose, not mere arrogance.

Dhṛṣṭadyumna proclaims a battle-plan in the form of vows: he will kill Droṇa, Śikhaṇḍī will be the instrument for Bhīṣma’s fall, Bhīma will kill Duryodhana, and Arjuna will kill Karṇa. He then asserts that with Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma as support, their side is unbeatable—even by Indra—therefore the Kauravas (sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra) are certainly defeatable.
