Surabhi–Indra Dialogue as a Governance Exemplar

taṁ jaṭājinasaṁvītaṁ tapovanani-vāsinaṁ | samājamur mahātmānaṁ draṣṭuṁ munigaṇāḥ prabho prabho ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Clad in matted locks and a deerskin, dwelling in the forest of austerities, that great-souled one (Dharmarāja) became the focus of a gathering—many companies of sages arrived there, eager to behold him. The scene underscores how a ruler’s commitment to restraint and dharma, even in exile, draws the reverence of the spiritually accomplished.
