Vaiśampāyana said: “O Dharmarāja, O royal sage, O Pāṇḍava of noble and meritorious lineage—out of compassion for us, remain here for just a short while.”

Even at the culmination of a life of duty, the truly righteous are urged to act with compassion and patience—pausing for others’ sake. The address “rājarṣi” frames ideal kingship as inseparable from restraint, humility, and concern for those who seek guidance.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana addresses Yudhiṣṭhira with honorific epithets and requests that he remain briefly. The moment functions as a pause in the closing movement of the epic, signaling that something important is to be conveyed before the action proceeds.
