Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 2 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry for His Kin and the Vision of a Punitive Realm

draṣṭum icchāmi tāṃ cāhaṃ pāñcālīṃ dharmacāriṇīm | na ceha sthātum icchāmi satyam evaṃ bravīmi vaḥ ||

Yudhiṣṭhira said: “I wish to see that Pāñcālī, the steadfast follower of dharma. Nor do I wish to remain here. This is the truth I speak to you.”

Educational Q&A

Even in the presence of heavenly reward, Yudhiṣṭhira prioritizes dharma expressed as truthfulness and fidelity to loved ones; he will not accept personal bliss while separated from the righteous companion he seeks to see.

In Svargārohaṇa, Yudhiṣṭhira is confronted with a heavenly setting yet declares he does not wish to remain there; he insists on seeing Pāñcālī (Draupadī), described as dharma-abiding, and speaks this resolve plainly to those addressing him.
