Śalya Installed as Commander; Coalition Agreement and Battle Arrays (शल्यसेनापत्यारोहणं व्यूहवर्णनं च)

Sañjaya said: “Thus I speak the truth to you, O Duryodhana—there is no doubt about it.” In the surrounding context, this line seals a pledge of confidence and resolve in the midst of war-planning, presenting certainty as a rhetorical weapon meant to steady the Kaurava leadership and justify aggressive strategy.

The verse foregrounds the ethical weight of speech—claiming “truth” and “no doubt” functions to authorize a course of action. In epic narrative, such certainty can be both a virtue (steadfastness) and a danger (overconfidence), depending on whether it aligns with dharma.
Sañjaya reports a decisive assurance addressed to Duryodhana, closing a prior assertion with a formal guarantee: “I am telling you the truth; there is no doubt.” It serves as a narrative marker of firm commitment amid the Kauravas’ war deliberations in Śalya Parva.
