Vaiśampāyana said: “O Bhārata, listen to the names of those illustrious Mother-goddesses—auspicious in their power—by whom the three worlds are pervaded, each in its own allotted sphere.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames the Mātṛkās as auspicious cosmic powers whose presence pervades and safeguards the three worlds in an ordered, apportioned way; learning and reciting their names is presented as a reverential act that aligns one with protective, dharmic forces.
Vaiśampāyana addresses Janamejaya and introduces a forthcoming list: he asks the listener to hear the names of the renowned Mother-goddesses, describing them as beneficent deities who pervade the three worlds according to distinct divisions.
