Duryodhana’s Refusal of Reconciliation
sañjaya uvāca | bhagavān śrīkṛṣṇaḥ kasyacid aparājitaṃ rājānaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram arjunaṃ bhīmasenaṃ ca yat kiṃcid vakṣyati, te sarve tad niḥsaṃdehaṃ pratigrahiṣyanti || nātikramiṣyate kṛṣṇo vacanaṃ kauravasya tu | dhṛtarāṣṭrasya manye'haṃ nāpi kṛṣṇasya pāṇḍavaḥ ||
Sanjaya said: Whatever the Blessed Krishna may say to King Yudhishthira—unconquered in resolve—as well as to Arjuna and Bhimasena, they will all accept it without doubt. I believe Krishna will not set aside the word of Dhritarashtra, the lord of the Kurus; and likewise the Pandava (Yudhishthira) will not be able to transgress Krishna’s command. Thus, authority and restraint—rooted in dharma and political obligation—are shown to bind both sides even amid the pressures of war.
