Duryodhana’s Refusal of Reconciliation
tasya cāstrāṇi divyāni vividhāni mahātmanaḥ | gāṇḍīvasya ca nirghoṣo dhairyāṇi harate hi naḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “That great-souled Arjuna possesses many kinds of celestial weapons; and the deep, thunderous roar of his Gāṇḍīva bow truly steals away our courage.”

The verse highlights how inner morale is a decisive factor in dharmic warfare: the opponent’s excellence—symbolized by Arjuna’s divine weapons and the intimidating sound of Gāṇḍīva—can erode courage even before combat is joined, showing that fear and confidence shape ethical and practical outcomes in battle.
Sañjaya describes Arjuna’s formidable preparedness: he has many celestial weapons, and the very roar of his bow Gāṇḍīva terrifies the opposing side, causing their resolve to falter.
