Trita in the Well (Udapāna-kathā) — Balarāma’s Tīrtha Observances
yatra yaḥ svapate vipro yo vā jāgarti bhārata | tatra tatra tu tasyaiva sarvaṁ klṛptam adṛśyata ||
Vaiśampāyana said: O Bhārata, wherever that brāhmaṇa lay down to sleep, or wherever he remained awake, in that very place all things needful for him were seen already arranged and ready—suggesting an unseen providence attending upon his conduct and worth.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the idea that righteous conduct and spiritual merit can draw supportive circumstances: for a worthy brāhmaṇa, necessities appear as if pre-arranged, implying the moral order (dharma) and unseen forces favoring the virtuous.
Vaiśampāyana describes a wondrous situation: wherever the brāhmaṇa happens to sleep or stay awake, the required provisions are found ready at that spot, emphasizing his exceptional standing and the extraordinary support surrounding him.
