द्वैपायनह्रदे दुर्योधनान्वेषणम् / The Search for Duryodhana at Dvaipāyana Lake
विदुर: सर्वधर्मज्ञो विक््लवेनान्तरात्मना | विवेश नगरे राजन् नि:शश्वास शनै: शनै:,राजन! सम्पूर्ण धर्मोके ज्ञाता विदुरजीने व्याकुल अन्त:ःकरणसे नगरमें प्रवेश किया और धीरे-धीरे वे लंबी साँस खींचने लगे
viduraḥ sarvadharmajño viklavena antarātmanā | viveśa nagare rājan niḥśaśvāsa śanaiḥ śanaiḥ ||
Sañjaya said: O King, Vidura—knower of the whole range of dharma—entered the city with an inwardly shaken heart, and he began to breathe out long, slow sighs again and again. The scene underscores the moral weight of events: even the wisest counselor is distressed as righteousness and kinship are strained by the unfolding war.
संजय उवाच
Even perfect knowledge of dharma does not make one emotionally untouched; when society and family abandon righteous counsel, the wise feel deep inner distress. The verse highlights the ethical burden carried by a dharma-knower witnessing moral collapse.
Sañjaya reports to the king that Vidura enters the city in a troubled state, repeatedly sighing. His demeanor signals grave concern about the unfolding consequences of the war and the court’s choices.
