कृपोपदेशः — द्रौणेरनिद्रा च
Kṛpa’s Counsel and Drauṇi’s Sleepless Resolve
शोकं मे वर्धयत्येष वारिवेग इवार्णवम् | एकाग्रमनसो मेउ5द्य कुतो निद्रा कुत: सुखम्
śokaṃ me vardhayatyeṣa vārivega ivārṇavam | ekāgramanaso me 'dya kuto nidrā kutaḥ sukham ||
This surge only increases my grief, like a rushing torrent swelling the ocean. Today my mind cannot settle on a single point—how could there be sleep for me, and how could there be any happiness?
कृप उवाच
Unrestrained emotional upheaval—especially after violent, unethical, or catastrophic events—destroys inner steadiness; without mental concentration (ekāgratā), neither rest (sleep) nor well-being (happiness) is possible.
Kṛpa voices his distress in the wake of the night-raid context of the Sauptika Parva: the situation intensifies his sorrow like a flood feeding the sea, leaving him mentally unsettled and unable to find sleep or comfort.
