Arjuna’s targeted advance; Śalya–Karṇa dialogue; interception attempts
चक्राणि चापविद्धानि तोमरांश्व महारणे । नानाविधानि शस्त्राणि प्रगृह् जयगृद्धिन:
cakrāṇi cāpaviddhāni tomarāṁś ca mahāraṇe | nānāvidhāni śastrāṇi pragṛhya jayagṛddhinaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: In that great battle, warriors—hungry for victory—took up and hurled discus-like weapons, spears, and many other kinds of arms. The scene conveys the relentless escalation of combat, where the desire to win drives men to ever more forceful and varied means, testing the boundaries of restraint and righteous conduct amid war.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how the craving for victory can intensify conflict and multiply means of harm; ethically, it invites reflection on restraint and dharma even within the unavoidable duties of war.
Sañjaya reports the battlefield scene: combatants seize and hurl chakras, spears, and many other weapons in the great fight, emphasizing the ferocity and variety of arms used.
