Sātyaki’s Assurance and the Protection of Dharmarāja (सात्यकिवचनम्—धर्मराजरक्षणविचारः)
taṁ tu lokavaraḥ puṁsāṁ kirīṭī hemavarmabhṛt | cāpabāṇadharo vāhūṁ pradakṣiṇam avartata ||
Sanjaya said: Then Arjuna—foremost among men, the diademed hero—wearing golden armour, and bearing bow and arrows, circumambulated that chariot in reverence. The act signals disciplined warrior-conduct: even amid battle, he honours the seat of action and the duty he is about to undertake, aligning himself with righteous resolve rather than mere aggression.
संजय उवाच
Even in warfare, righteous action is marked by self-control and reverence: Arjuna’s pradakṣiṇā reflects disciplined intent and respect for duty, not reckless violence.
Sanjaya describes Arjuna, fully armed and adorned, making a respectful clockwise circuit around the chariot—an auspicious, reverential gesture before engaging in the next martial action.
