Adhyāya 40 (Book 7, Droṇa-parva): Abhimanyu’s Rapid Advance and Battlefield Disruption
कर्णोडपि चास्य चिक्षेप बाणान् संनतपर्वण:
karṇo 'pi cāsya cikṣepa bāṇān sannataparvaṇaḥ
Sañjaya said: Karṇa too shot arrows at him—arrows whose joints were well-bent and firmly set—intensifying the assault in the midst of the righteous yet devastating conflict.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores how, in war, skilled warriors intensify pressure through superior weapon-craft; ethically, it reflects the Mahābhārata’s tension between kṣatriya-duty (fighting with full prowess) and the tragic cost of escalating violence.
Sañjaya reports that Karṇa joins the attack and discharges well-made arrows at a particular opponent (“him”), indicating a coordinated or renewed assault during the Drona Parva battle sequence.
