“My undertaking has been ruined in just that manner by those utterly misguided men who call themselves my closest friends. Through delusion, they have brought to nothing the design of me—greedy, sinful, and scheming—who was striving to seize wealth and sovereignty.”
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse highlights how greed for power and wealth, intensified by delusion, leads to ethical collapse and strategic ruin; misguided counsel from those considered “friends” can accelerate one’s downfall, especially when one’s own motives are impure.
Duryodhana laments that his plan has been thwarted and blames the foolish actions/advice of those he counts as intimate allies; he also characterizes himself as greedy and sinful, intent on seizing wealth/kingdom, underscoring the moral and tactical unraveling within the Kaurava camp.
