Sañjaya said: “O lord of the people, thereafter the entire Pāṇḍava host—gladdened and newly heartened on the battlefield—fixed its mind wholly upon the fight.” Thus ends, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Droṇa Parvan, in the section on the slaying of Jayadratha, the chapter concerning Yudhiṣṭhira’s joy—Chapter 149.

The verse highlights the ethical-psychological dimension of dharma-yuddha: collective resolve and disciplined focus arise when a just cause is reaffirmed and leadership steadies the troops. Joy here is not mere celebration but renewed commitment to duty in the midst of war.
After the preceding events in the Jayadratha-slaying episode, the Pāṇḍava forces become visibly encouraged and, with uplifted spirits, concentrate fully on continuing the battle. The colophon then marks the completion of the chapter themed around Yudhiṣṭhira’s joy.
