द्रोणकर्णयोः निशि संप्रहारः — Night Engagement with Droṇa and Karṇa
अद्य योत्स्येडर्जुनमहं पौरुष॑ स्वं व्यपाश्रित:
adya yotsyed arjunam ahaṃ pauruṣaṃ svaṃ vyapāśritaḥ
Sañjaya said: “Today I shall fight Arjuna, relying upon my own manly strength.”
संजय उवाच
The line highlights the warrior’s resolve and the ethical tension of relying on personal prowess (pauruṣa) in a dharmic war: courage and determination are praised, yet the emphasis on ‘my own strength’ can also signal pride and self-reliance amid a conflict where outcomes are shaped by fate, counsel, and righteousness.
Sañjaya reports a combatant’s declaration of intent: on this day he will engage Arjuna directly, trusting in his own valor. It frames the immediate battlefield mood—challenge, confidence, and the escalation toward a decisive encounter with Arjuna.
