Adhyāya 113: Karṇa–Bhīma Śaravarṣa and the Battlefield Aftermath (कर्णभीमशरवर्षः)
कुरुष्वाद्यात्मनो गुप्तिं कस्ते गोप्ता गते मयि
kuruṣvādya ātmano guptiṁ kas te goptā gate mayi
Sañjaya said: “Make your own protection today; when I am gone, who will be your protector?”
संजय उवाच
The verse stresses prudent self-guarding and responsibility: one should not depend entirely on a single supporter or advisor, because human help is impermanent; therefore one must arrange one’s own safeguards in time.
Sañjaya, speaking to his royal listener, urges immediate precaution—warning that if Sañjaya is no longer present, there may be no one left to protect or guide, so the king must secure himself without delay.
