Duryodhana Seeks Droṇa’s Counsel; Imperative to Protect Jayadratha; Pāñcāla Assault on Duryodhana

arjuna uvāca | paśya bāhoś ca me vīryaṃ dhanuṣaś ca janārdana | parājayiṣye kauravyaṃ kavacenāpi rakṣitam ||

Arjuna said: “O Janārdana, behold the strength of my arms and the power of my bow. I shall defeat that Kaurava, even though he is protected by armor.” In the heat of righteous battle, Arjuna asserts disciplined confidence in skill and resolve, framing victory not as mere pride but as the fulfillment of his warrior-duty against an entrenched, well-defended adversary.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights steadfast resolve aligned with kṣatriya-duty: confidence in disciplined effort and martial skill, even against a well-protected opponent, while addressing Kṛṣṇa as the moral and strategic anchor.

Arjuna speaks to Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana), declaring that Kṛṣṇa should witness his arm-strength and bow-power; he vows to defeat the Kaurava leader (understood as Duryodhana) despite the latter’s armor and defenses.
