Bhīṣma said: “O King, enjoy and govern this earth, living happily together with your brothers—afflicting all hostile foes, while gladdening your kinsmen and allies.”
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma frames ideal kingship as the balanced exercise of power: protect and strengthen one’s own side (brothers and kinsmen), bring joy and stability to allies, and firmly restrain hostile forces—so that rule is both effective and socially sustaining.
Bhīṣma addresses a king with counsel on governance: he urges him to rule the earth in unity with his brothers, maintaining prosperity at home while subduing enemies and supporting relatives and allies.
