Adhyāya 65: Dawn Assembly, Makara–Śyena Vyūhas, and Commander Engagements
नान्तरं दृश्यते तत्र तयोश्व रथिनोस्तदा । मुहूर्तमिव तद् युद्ध तयो: सममिवाभवत्,उस समय उन दोनों महारथियोंमें पराक्रमकी दृष्टिसे कोई अन्तर नहीं दिखायी देता था। दो घड़ीतक दोनोंमें समान-सा युद्ध होता रहा
sañjaya uvāca | nāntaraṃ dṛśyate tatra tayoś ca rathinostadā | muhūrtam iva tad yuddhaṃ tayoḥ samam ivābhavat |
Sañjaya said: “At that time, no difference in prowess could be seen between those two chariot-warriors. For a while, their combat appeared evenly matched—each meeting the other without yielding.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights impartial observation in the midst of conflict: true assessment of valor recognizes moments when opponents are evenly matched, reminding the listener that fame and victory can hinge on small turns of time and circumstance rather than inherent superiority alone.
Sañjaya reports to the listener that, during this phase of the battle, the two opposing chariot-warriors fought for a time with no visible difference in strength or skill; their exchange of blows appeared perfectly balanced.
