Chapter 47: Krauñca-vyūha Deployment and Conch-Signals
Kaurava–Pāṇḍava Readiness
शल्य उवाच सम्पत्स्यत्येष ते काम: कुन्तीपुत्र यथेप्सितम् । गच्छ युध्यस्व विश्रब्ध: प्रतिजाने वचस्तव,शल्य बोले--कुन्तीनन्दन! तुम्हारा यह अभीष्ट मनोरथ अवश्य पूर्ण होगा। जाओ, निश्चिन्त होकर युद्ध करो। मैं तुम्हारे वचनका पालन करनेकी प्रतिज्ञा करता हूँ
śalya uvāca sampatsyaty eṣa te kāmaḥ kuntīputra yathepsitam | gaccha yudhyasva viśrabdhaḥ pratijāne vacas tava ||
Śalya said: “O son of Kuntī, your wish shall indeed be fulfilled exactly as you desire. Go—fight with a calm and confident mind. I pledge to uphold your word.”
शल्य उवाच
The verse emphasizes steadfastness to one’s pledged word and the kṣatriya ethic of entering battle without fear when duty calls, supported by assurances of loyalty and fulfillment of a rightful aim.
Śalya addresses a son of Kuntī, assuring him that his intended objective will be achieved and urging him to fight confidently, while Śalya himself vows to stand by and honor the other’s stated commitment.
