Educational Q&A

Respect and proper honoring of an elder/authority figure is shown as ethically consequential: it elicits consent and support. The verse frames warfare as a sanctioned kshatriya act—once permission is granted, one should act decisively toward the chosen aim (victory).

Shalya, pleased by the honor he has received, gives his approval and explicit permission to the addressed warrior to proceed with battle, blessing the fulfillment of the warrior’s desire and urging him to fight and win.
