Chapter 47: Krauñca-vyūha Deployment and Conch-Signals
Kaurava–Pāṇḍava Readiness
स द्रोणमभिवाद्याथ कृत्वा चाभिप्रदक्षिणम् । उवाच राजा दुर्धर्षमात्मनि:श्रेयसं वच:,संजय बोले--कुरुनन्दन! तदनन्तर महाबाहु युधिष्ठिरने भीष्मकी आज्ञाको शिरोधार्य किया और पुनः उन्हें प्रणाम करके वे द्रोणाचार्यके रथकी ओर गये। सारी सेना देख रही थी और वे उसके बीचसे होकर भाइयोंसहित द्रोणाचार्यके पास जा पहुँचे। वहाँ राजाने उन्हें प्रणाम करके उनकी परिक्रमा की और उन दुर्जय वीर-शिरोमणिसे अपने हितकी बात पूछी »“»णः
sa droṇam abhivādyātha kṛtvā cābhipradakṣiṇam | uvāca rājā durdharṣam ātmaniḥśreyasaṃ vacaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Then the king approached Droṇa, paid him reverence, and circumambulated him in respect. Having thus honored that unconquerable master of arms, he spoke words seeking what would be truly beneficial for his own highest good—placing duty and right conduct above pride even amid the press of war.
संजय उवाच
Even in warfare, dharmic conduct requires humility and reverence toward one’s teacher; seeking niḥśreyasa (true welfare) means asking for right counsel rather than acting from ego or haste.
Yudhiṣṭhira (the king), as Sañjaya narrates, goes to Droṇa, salutes him and circumambulates him, then speaks to him with a request or inquiry aimed at his own proper course and welfare.
