Nirmaryāda-saṃgrāma-varṇana — The Unbounded Clash and Bhīṣma’s Rallying Presence
काममाश्रित्य दुष्पूरं दम्भभानमदान्विता: । मोहाद गृहीत्वासदग्राहान् प्रवर्तन्तेडशुचिव्रता:,वे दम्भ, मान और मदसे युक्त मनुष्य किसी प्रकार भी पूर्ण न होनेवाली कामनाओंका आश्रय लेकर, अज्ञानसे मिथ्या सिद्धान्तोंको ग्रहण करके और भ्रष्ट आचरणोंको धारण करकेः संसारमें विचरते हैं
kāmam āśritya duṣpūraṁ dambha-māna-madānvitāḥ | mohād gṛhītvā sad-agrāhān pravartante 'śuci-vratāḥ ||
Driven by prideful hypocrisy, self-importance, and intoxication of ego, people take refuge in desires that can never truly be satisfied. Deluded, they adopt false doctrines and, having embraced impure and corrupt disciplines, they roam through the world in such a way.
अजुन उवाच
Insatiable desire, when joined with hypocrisy, pride, and ego-intoxication, leads to delusion; from that delusion people adopt false views and corrupt practices, resulting in ethically degraded conduct.
Arjuna is describing a type of misguided person: one who clings to endless cravings and, under delusion, embraces wrong doctrines and impure observances, thereby moving through the world in a morally distorted way.
