Nirmaryāda-saṃgrāma-varṇana — The Unbounded Clash and Bhīṣma’s Rallying Presence
सम्बन्ध-- ऐसे नास्तिक सिद्धान्तके माननेवालोंके स्वभाव और आचरण कैसे होते हैं? इस जिज्ञासापर अब भगवान् अगले चार श्लोकोंमें उनके लक्षणोंका वर्णन करते हैं-- एतां दृष्टिमवष्ट भ्य नष्टात्मानो5ल्पबुद्धय: । प्रभवन्त्युग्रकर्माण: क्षयाय जगतो5हिता:,इस मिथ्या ज्ञानको अवलम्बन करके--जिनका स्वभाव नष्ट हो गया है तथा जिनकी बुद्धि मन्द है, वे सबका अपकार करनेवाले क्रूरकर्मी मनुष्य केवल जगत्के नाशके लिये ही समर्थ होते हैं:
etāṁ dṛṣṭim avaṣṭabhya naṣṭātmāno 'lpabuddhayaḥ | prabhavanty ugra-karmāṇaḥ kṣayāya jagato 'hitāḥ ||
Clinging to this false outlook, those whose inner nature is ruined and whose understanding is shallow become capable only of harsh and violent deeds. Hostile to the welfare of all, they act in ways that lead toward the destruction of the world.
अजुन उवाच
A corrupt worldview (mithyā-dṛṣṭi) deforms character and weakens discernment; from that inner ruin arise violent, socially destructive actions. The verse links doctrine → disposition → conduct → collective harm.
In Bhīṣma Parva, within the broader discourse on conduct and right understanding, the speaker describes the traits of those who adopt a nihilistic or false doctrine: they become cruel in action and detrimental to the world’s welfare.
