भीष्मपर्वणि तु सप्तविंशोडध्याय:,भीष्मपर्वमें सत्ताईसवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ सर्वाणीन्द्रियकर्माणि प्राणकर्माणि चापरे । आत्मसंयमयोगाग्नौ जुद्दति ज्ञानदीपिते दूसरे योगीजन इन्द्रियोंकी सम्पूर्ण क्रियाओंको और प्राणोंकी समस्त क्रियाओंको ज्ञानसे प्रकाशित आत्म-संयमयोगरूप अग्निमें हवन किया करते हैं?
sarvāṇīndriya-karmāṇi prāṇa-karmāṇi cāpare | ātma-saṁyama-yogāgnau juhvati jñāna-dīpite ||
Others, pursuing a disciplined inner path, offer as a sacrifice all the activities of the senses and even the functions of the vital breaths into the fire of self-restraint, kindled and illumined by knowledge. The ethical point is that true renunciation is not mere withdrawal from action, but the conscious consecration of one’s faculties—sense-impulses and life-forces—into a steady, knowing mastery of the self.
