Dhyāna-Yoga

Discipline of Meditation and Mental Restraint

evaṁ jñātvā kṛtaṁ karma pūrvair api mumukṣubhiḥ | kuru karmaiva tasmāt tvaṁ pūrvaiḥ pūrvataraṁ kṛtam ||

Knowing this, even the seekers of liberation in ancient times performed action. Therefore you too should perform action—indeed the very duties practiced from long ago by the forefathers—so that your conduct remains aligned with the established path of righteous living.

Educational Q&A

Even those aiming for liberation did not abandon rightful action; one should perform one’s prescribed duties in continuity with the righteous example set by earlier generations.

In the instruction on dharma and right conduct, the speaker urges the listener to act rather than withdraw, citing the precedent of ancient seekers who pursued liberation while still performing their duties.
