Sañjaya said: “Thus there arose a tumultuous roar directed toward Phālguna’s chariot.” Near Arjuna’s chariot the warriors’ cries thundered—“Kill him! Bring him here! Seize him! Pierce him! Cut him to pieces!”—revealing the frenzy and moral collapse that war can unleash when hatred overpowers restraint.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how collective rage in war can drown discernment: the crowd’s violent commands show the ethical danger of letting anger and group frenzy override self-control and dharma, even in a kṣatriya context.

Sañjaya reports a fierce uproar aimed at Arjuna’s chariot; around it, combatants shout orders to kill, seize, and mutilate—signaling an intense moment of confrontation focused on Arjuna.
