Sañjaya said: “O blameless, sinless king! The diameter of Rāhu is indeed twelve thousand yojanas, and by circumference it measures thirty-six thousand yojanas.”
संजय उवाच
The verse primarily conveys cosmological knowledge—describing the immense scale of Rāhu in yojanas—reflecting the epic’s tradition of situating human events within a vast, ordered universe.
Sañjaya addresses the king (Dhṛtarāṣṭra) and reports a factual description of Rāhu’s dimensions, as part of a broader explanatory passage that includes cosmic or astronomical details.
