Measurements and Description of Śākadvīpa
स्वर्भानो: कौरवश्रेष्ठ यावदेव प्रमाणत: । परिमण्डलो महाराज स्वर्भानु: श्रूयते ग्रह:,संजय बोले--महाराज! मैंने द्वीपोंका वर्णन तो कर दिया। अब ग्रहोंका यथार्थ वर्णन सुनिये। कौरव-श्रेष्ठत राहुकी जितनी बड़ी लंबाई-चौड़ाई सुननेमें आती है, वह आपको बताता हूँ। महाराज! सुना है कि राहु ग्रह मण्डलाकार है
svarbhānoḥ kauravaśreṣṭha yāvad eva pramāṇataḥ | parimaṇḍalo mahārāja svarbhānuḥ śrūyate grahaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “O best of the Kurus, I shall tell you, as far as its measure is known, the extent of Svarbhānu (Rāhu). O great king, Svarbhānu is heard of as a planet, circular in form.”
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes reliance on received tradition and measured description (pramāṇa) when speaking about cosmic phenomena, presenting knowledge as something reported and bounded by what is known.
Sañjaya continues a cosmological account, shifting from describing islands to describing celestial bodies, and introduces Svarbhānu (Rāhu), stating its reputed size and its circular form.
