अश्वमेधावसानम् — Dakṣiṇā-vibhāga and Avabhṛtha

Completion of the Aśvamedha

सनातनस्य धर्मस्य मूलमेतत्‌ सनातनम्‌ | श्रूयन्ते हि पुरा वृत्ता विश्वामित्रादयो नृपा:,यही धर्म है, यही महान्‌ योग है, दान, प्राणियोंपर दया, ब्रह्मचर्य, सत्य, करुणा, धृति और क्षमा--ये सनातन धर्मके सनातन मूल हैं। सुना जाता है कि पूर्वकालमें विश्वामित्र आदि नरेश इसीसे सिद्धिको प्राप्त हुए थे

sanātanasya dharmasya mūlam etat sanātanam | śrūyante hi purā vṛttā viśvāmitrādayo nṛpāḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: “This is the eternal root of the eternal Dharma. Indeed, it is heard from ancient tradition that kings such as Viśvāmitra and others, by living in accordance with this very foundation, attained spiritual accomplishment.”
