Vaishampayana said: Overpowered by greed and delusion, a person adopts the mindset of hoarding. With an impure understanding, he then, through sinful conduct, throws living beings into distress and agitation—showing how acquisitiveness corrodes judgment and harms the world around him.

Educational Q&A

Greed and delusion generate a hoarding mentality that corrupts discernment; from that corrupted judgment arise sinful actions that disturb and harm other beings. The verse frames inner vice (lobha, moha) as the root cause of outward social suffering.

Vaiśampāyana continues a moral exposition, describing the behavioral pattern of a person dominated by greed: he turns toward accumulation, becomes mentally impure, and through wrongful conduct causes fear and distress among living beings.
